Rumors indicate that the MacBook Neo 2 will arrive in 2027 equipped with the A19 Pro chip and 12 GB of unified memory, a combination designed to handle the new artificial intelligence features of macOS 27. The information was released on August 20, 2026 by the GameVicio website, based on recent leaks about Apple's notebook lineup. According to what was gathered, the hardware is a direct response to the requirements of the next operating system, which would not release certain AI functions with less than 12 GB of RAM. This update represents a 50% increase in memory compared to the 8 GB of the current model, something many users pointed out as the device's main weak point. Apple has not officially confirmed anything yet, but speculation has gained strength after reports from sources like Bloomberg and Mark Gurman.
The current MacBook Neo, launched in March 2026 for US$ 599, uses the A18 Pro chip with 8 GB of unified memory, a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, two USB-C ports, MagSafe and Wi-Fi 7. The device sold more than Apple expected, but the RAM limitation became a target of criticism in reviews and forums, especially because the rest of the Mac lineup already starts with 16 GB. With macOS 27, Apple plans to introduce more advanced local AI models, which require more memory to run without relying on the cloud. The jump to 12 GB, although it does not reach the 16 GB of other Macs, is seen as a necessary step to keep the Neo competitive without cannibalizing higher-end models.

The A19 Pro chip is the same SoC used in the iPhone 17 Pro, but the version for the MacBook Neo 2 should have a 5-core GPU, versus 6 cores on the iPhone, as a way to differentiate the products. According to estimates, the performance gain in CPU tasks should be between 10% and 15%, while the GPU may show greater advances, thanks to the integrated neural accelerators. This combination of processor and memory should unlock access to Apple's most advanced local AI model, announced at this year's WWDC. For users working with video editing or app development, the improvement avoids technical limitations and slowdowns in more demanding scenarios.
The expectation is that the MacBook Neo 2 will launch in the first half of 2027, maintaining Apple's strategy of offering the most affordable notebook in the lineup. In addition to the internal specifications, leaks mention new color options, which would add to the current Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo. There is no information about changes in design or price, which should remain close to US$ 599 to continue attracting buyers looking for a cheap Mac. While Apple does not officially announce anything, the rumors continue to fuel the expectations of those waiting for a more capable MacBook Neo prepared for the era of artificial intelligence.
