Call of Duty: Black Ops II once again dominated the sales charts in 2026 thanks to its recently released port for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. According to data released by GameVicio and estimates from Alinea Analytics, the title led the monthly ranking in July and already appears among the five best-selling games of the year as of August 20. The original game, released in 2012, sold about 8.2 million copies on the PS Store in less than a month. This number is even more impressive as it is a re-release, outperforming recent launches from other franchises. The performance places the Activision classic alongside heavyweights like Mecha Chameleon, EA Sports FC 26 and Resident Evil Requiem. The news was confirmed by multiple sources, including IGN and Thunderwave.
The Black Ops II port launched on July 9, 2026 for PS4 and PS5, developed by Iron Galaxy. The digital version arrived with competitive pricing and content bundles, attracting both veterans and new players. In just a few weeks, sales surged, making the title one of the most downloaded on the PlayStation Store. The success is even more notable when compared to other re-releases, such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, which sold about 351 thousand copies in the same period. While Master Chief had a shorter launch window, Black Ops II was available throughout July. Activision's strategy of betting on classic ports proved extremely effective.

Black Ops II's performance on the annual ranking is impressive. According to Alinea Analytics, the three best-selling games of 2026 are Mecha Chameleon (12.6 million), EA's FC 26 (9.1 million) and Resident Evil Requiem (7.5 million). With an estimated 8.2 million copies, Black Ops II sits right behind FC 26, surpassing Resident Evil Requiem. This means a 14-year-old game is competing on equal footing with current AAA releases. Circana analysts highlighted that the Call of Duty franchise dominates Sony's charts. The presence of two classic titles from the series in the Top 10 reinforces the brand's strength in the PlayStation ecosystem.
The success of the Black Ops II port is not an isolated case. Black Ops 1 also appears among the best-sellers, showing that nostalgia and the appeal of classics remain strong. Activision, however, is already looking ahead with the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, scheduled for October 2026. Meanwhile, re-releases continue to generate significant revenue and expand the player base. The case of Black Ops II proves that a good game never ages, especially when it receives a competent port. For fans, it is the chance to relive one of the franchise's most memorable eras.
