Bitcoin is trading higher this Monday, August 17, reclaiming the $63,000 level after last week's pullback. According to Exame, cryptocurrencies remain decoupled from international stock markets and are not reacting directly to the geopolitical uncertainty sparked by news of the war in Iran. On Monday morning, BTC was changing hands around $63,500, up roughly 0.9% on the session. The move comes after the asset dipped to $61,000 over the weekend and then clawed back part of those losses. Sellers tried to push the price down but failed to sustain it below $62,300, keeping the market range-bound.

The recovery, however, is still being met with caution by analysts. Bitcoin has not produced a decisive breakout and remains under pressure from geopolitical tensions, uncertain institutional flows and regulatory developments. Bitget warns of a risk of heightened volatility in the derivatives market, with BTC showing only a moderate recovery. According to Valor Econômico, spot bitcoin ETFs in the United States recorded roughly $385 million in net outflows last week, which limits the strength of the upside move. The lack of fresh inflows is preventing the asset from gaining enough traction to break out of the range it has been oscillating in over recent weeks.
On the technical side, resistance and support levels are gaining importance. A sustained move above the 20 and 50-period exponential moving averages, in the $63,700 to $64,300 zone, would be needed to ease the immediate downside pressure. On the other hand, a break below the $60,000 support could open the door to further declines. The 200-week moving average, now hovering near $63,000, has ceased to be a floor and has turned into the first resistance level, followed by $65,000 and the $65,600 zone, which rejected the price twice in late July. To the downside, the better references are last week's low at $61,800.

The macro backdrop also remains on investors' radar. On Wednesday, the minutes from the latest Federal Reserve meeting, chaired by Kevin Warsh, are due out and should offer clues on the next steps for monetary policy. The following week, between August 27 and 29, the Jackson Hole symposium takes place, with Warsh's first speech scheduled for the 28th. Meanwhile, gold is trading above $4,380, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield stands at 4.69% and the dollar trades at R$ 5.22. These indicators point to a climate of global caution, which tends to keep investors more defensive toward volatile assets like bitcoin.
Despite the uncertainties, bitcoin's resilience in holding $63,000 is seen as a positive sign by parts of the market. The asset had already stabilized at this level following the release of US inflation data the previous week. The decoupling from stock markets and relative indifference to geopolitical tensions suggest the crypto market is maturing, but it still depends on institutional flows to sustain a more consistent rally. The week ahead will be decisive in determining whether BTC can break through resistance and resume an upward trajectory or remain stuck in its range-bound pattern.
